Rules
Kondos Ice Hockey League largely follows the rules set out by the International Ice Hockey Federation.
However, the rules are modified for both safety and fun. Some rules (such as icing), are loosely based on IIHF rules but adapted to ensure the safety of beginner players in KIHL. Additionally, minor penalties automatically incur a penalty shot attempt, while major penalties incur a penalty shot AND 2 minutes in the penalty box.
KIHL games are played in two halves of 25 minutes each. There is stopped and added time at the discretion of the match-day crew, depending on how interesting and exciting the game is.
The only time a faceoff is taken is following a goal being scored. Otherwise, in situations such as offside, icing, handling the puck, and playing the puck with a high stick, the offending team must turn the puck over to the defensive team and play will continue.
Breaches of rules may be subject to supplementary discipline, dependent on the type and severity of incident. This is covered in the Kondos Ice Hockey League Complaints, Discipline, and Dispute Policy.
